Show notes
I met James at a Public Health Collaboration conference in 2019. This is the first time I’ve interviewed a dentist and boy did we pack everything in. In this ‘everything about teeth’ hour we cover…
- Why a dentist would write a recipe book.
- Are bleeding gums OK? What’s saliva testing?
- How does the dentist know you haven’t got oral cancer when you go for your check up? What else can the mouth tell your dentist?
- When it’s obvious that diet is an issue, how do you start the conversation with patients and how is it received?
- What’s mouth breathing? Why is it bad and what happens when you wear a mask?
- Do James’s children ever have junk?
- Oral hygiene – how, why and when to tongue brush, as well as teeth brush. Toothpaste? Mouthwash? Chewing gum? Xylitol? What’s good and what’s bad?
- Fluoride. Vitamin D3 and K2 and what vitamin C can help with.
- Where are you on fruit? What are fizzy drinks doing? Energy drinks especially?
- How can we stop children growing up thinking junk is a reward? What’s an alternative to sweet rewards?
- Is vaping impacting oral health? If so, how? Where candida fits in.
- Teeth whitening – good? Bad? How to do it?
- Who has contacted James to explore the 3 out of 36 oral issues related to Alzheimer’s Disease?
- Mercury fillings – to remove or not to remove and how and by whom if so.
- The best and worst thing about being a dentist.
