Appendix 3 (Chapter 5) – Correlations with CHD deaths using Keys’ data

Keys reported correlation coefficients with 13 or 14 cohorts as follows (p.I-168) [182]:

1) Median serum cholesterol and saturated fat as a percentage of calories: r = 0.89 (p.I-170). This was based on 14 cohorts, with Ushibuka and Rome Railroad missing.

2) Median serum cholesterol and CHD deaths and infarctions per 100 people: r = 0.76 (p.I-172). This was based on 13 cohorts, with both Japanese cohorts and Rome Railroad missing.

3) CHD deaths and infarctions and total fat as a percentage of calories: r = 0.40 (p.I-173). This was based on 13 cohorts, with both Japanese cohorts and Rome Railroad missing.

4) CHD deaths and infarctions and saturated fat as a percentage of calories: r = 0.84 (p.I-174). This was based on 13 cohorts, with both Japanese cohorts and Rome Railroad missing.
