Written by Zoë on January 16, 2010 - 2 Comments
Categories: Other Diets

A review of The Atkins Diet

The vast majority of diets are trying to get people to eat less (i.e. fewer calories). They are based on the idea that, if you eat less, your body will use up fat reserves in place of the missing energy. If only this were true!  The body will first and foremost make you hungry, to [...]

Reported in the Sunday Papers today – apparently desperate dieters are rushing to snap up the latest ‘miracle’ product – a cream that promises to melt away fat. Debenhams say that there has been a 200% rise in sales following reports that one WeightWatchers tester (yes one) had lost an inch from her waist. Far [...]

My Big Fat Diet Show

I’ve just watched the first episode of this programme and never has my book title “Stop Counting Calories & Start Losing Weight” seemed more appropriate. First of all – don’t you just love Anna Richardson?! She is one of my fave presenters – so natural, so approachable, so ‘one of us’ and good on her [...]

Fad diets accused of making the obesity epidemic worse

Written by Zoë on December 3, 2009 - 1 Comment
Categories: Media comments, Other Diets

I caught this on radio media and in the national press on Monday 23/11/09. Professor Chris Hawkey, of the British Society of Gastroenterology was speaking at the “Gastro 2009″ conference in London. He claimed that promotion of unhealthy foods and diets has fostered over-eating and an obsession with eating only ‘good’ foods. He was set [...]

The alternate day diet

Written by Zoë on December 3, 2009 - 2 Comments
Categories: Media comments, Other Diets

In July 2009, I was asked by Bella magazine to comment on 3 ‘fad/mad’ diets – are they really mad, or are any of them OK? The 3 diets were: 1) the Hollywood cookie diet- eat 4 calorie counted, expensive, cookies a day and not much else; 2) the ‘caveman’ diet – eat meat, fish, [...]

I went to the Wales National Obesity Forum conference yesterday and there were promotion stands around the hall – Lighter Life were there, Rosemary Conley was there, drug companies were there. But at least Coca Cola weren’t! (However the Chief Medical Officer for Wales couldn’t get a drink of water – the fridge was full [...]

This article is so useful – because hopefully most people read this and saw it for the stupid madness that it is and my hope is that the same people start questioning all the other mad claims attached to the Mediterranean diet…. “Eating a Mediterranean diet could cut your risk of depression by 30%, according [...]

This is totally worth going on the Daily Mail web site for – search on the article title and/or date and a double page article should appear. It will be worth it for the picture of Ms Lighter Life, Jackie Cox, herself -  the woman is as wide as she is tall and this is [...]
