Lighter Life Ingredients – the sequel

I went to the Wales National Obesity Forum conference yesterday and there were promotion stands around the hall – Lighter Life were there, Rosemary Conley was there, drug companies were there. But at least Coca Cola weren’t! (However the Chief Medical Officer for Wales couldn’t get a drink of water – the fridge was full of low calorie soft drink rubbish – and he rightly commented on this).

From the Lighter Life stand I got a free “Chocolate Raisin Crunch” bar. OMG! The bar  is 60g in weight and has 207 calories (that’s not much fuel, but that’s what Lighter Life is all about – not much fuel). This is a meal replacement – this is all you have! It takes me back to my anorexic days when I used to try to live on 400 cals a day – that would be 2 of these bars. What a thought.

The ingredients are: soy nuggets (25%) (isolated soya protein, tapioca starch, rice flour, malt extract, calcium carbonate, salt), Milk chocolate (10%) (Sugar, cocoa butter, coca mass, skimmed milk powder, lactose, whey powder, milk fat, emulsifiers (soya lecithin, polyglycerol polyricinoleate), natural flavouring), glucose syrup, raisins (7%), bulking agent (polydextrose), oligofructose syrup, soya pieces, oats, malitol, humectant (glycerol), vitamins and minerals (thank goodness!), apple fibre,  sunflower oil, fructose, coconut oil, emulsifier (soya lecithin), flavourings, natural caramel syrup, gelling agent (pectin).

Polyglycerol polyricinoleate was a new one for me – it’s another emulsifier apparently (emulsifiers stop oil and water separating).

Don’t you love the references to natural?! natural flavouring, natural caramel syrup – reckon we could go for that one on the trade descriptions act!
